April 2023- From the President

April 2023- From the President

PMI Central Ohio Chapter Members, I hope you and your families are well. I continue to be grateful to my fellow board members, volunteers, and you, our members, for supporting our Chapter throughout the beginning of 2023. I hope you all have had time to at least be at one of our in-person events. The board members have been working hard on exciting upcoming events and have had some very fun events this past quarter. One of the amazing events coming this quarter that I am personally excited about; Building the Silicon Heartland , make sure you all get signed up for this tremendous opportunity. What a timely and exciting topic! We hope to have a lot of Construction Project Managers there or if you are interested in Construction Project Management you should definitely attend. We will be updating our Calendar of Events , with many opportunities for your development and network. Please visit and participate. If you have not already done so, please sign up for your Newsletter to inform you of our upcoming events and activities. Membership Focus The very first paragraph you see on the PMI website is this: PMI empowers people to make ideas a reality. Through Global advocacy, networking, collaboration, research, and education. PMI prepares organizations and individuals at every stage of their career journey to work smarter so they can drive success in a world of change. For this fiscal quarter, our theme focuses on People and Business Environment. This theme aligns with the new focus of the PMP exam structure. In our ever-changing work environment, I want to make sure the Central Ohio Chapter Members are able to be versatile in the type of Project Management work they do. For example, you may be an IT Project Manager, but you have always dreamed of being a part of building something and you want to be a part of rolling out the latest FDA medication to the marketplace. We want to help get you there. Maybe when you started with the Central Ohio Chapter, you were single, in college, had no children, or had a house full. Now you may be married, have children, finished school, or be an empty nester. Just like our lives go through the season so do our careers and our chapter wants to meet that challenge with you and help give you all the tools and skills you need to move forward in life. Let us help you develop yourself for the new economy. Together we will get through all the new seasons of our lives. We want to grow with you in every phase. PMI Leadership Institute Management (LIM) What Happens in San Diego… Doesn’t Stay In San Diego! I had the great opportunity to represent our Central Ohio Chapter of PMI at LIM. What an amazing and fun conference. I learned and shared so much at the conference. We have a lot of hard work but hopefully fun and rewarding work ahead of us. I will be going over some of the new ideas, tools, and skills with the board to see if they might be a good fit to make a better Central Ohio Chapter for you! However to determine the vision for the future of our chapter. I want to hear from all of you, not just the board. I am certain there are ideas you as members have that you would like to see from our chapter. I would like you to answer the following questions; if you have time: What would help you? What would make this chapter more valuable to you? What would make this chapter fun? Send me your ideas and I will review them and see if we can get them accomplished. I cannot promise all of them; however, I will be sharing what we receive and what we can do. Please email me at President@PMICOC.Org Upcoming Central Ohio Professional Development (PDD) Day As most of you are aware we SOLD OUT this event last year. Outgoing President Message

Outgoing President Message

Hello PMICOC Members,
As I reflect on the chapter’s accomplishments in 2022, I am beyond impressed. This year we saw a shift from a virtual environment, to more of a hybrid approach for our events. In April, our Outreach team held our first in-person chapter event since 2019, which highlighted the great work our volunteers have done for our non-profit partners. Our Programs team continued to do an amazing job lining up virtual sessions that offered PDUs throughout the year. In the fall we also held our annual Professional Development Day, in person at the convention center, which sold out!
Looking ahead, I am excited to serve on the PMICOC Board in 2023 as the past President. This will allow me to continue some initiatives, such as planning networking events and assisting with PDD for 2023. I will also have the opportunity to work with our incoming President, to ensure a seamless transition and provide support when needed.

The success we have had as chapter is a result of the hard work of our volunteers, VLT and Board. I appreciate all the time and dedication they have shared with the chapter and encourage all of you to consider lending your time and expertise in 2023. We have volunteer positions available in Programs, Technology, Communications, Outreach, Member Services and Professional Development Day. Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like to hear more about how you can get involved.

I am excited to see what’s to come in 2023 for PMICOC and wish you all a very happy and healthy year!

Thank you,
Stephanie

July 2022 From the President

July 2022 From the President

Hello PMICOC! I hope you are all enjoying some time outside in between heat waves and making the most of the summer. I know I am spending as much time outside as possible and in todays’ virtual world, I am fortunate to be able to work from home…which also means my patio when weather permits. Every year, I find it hard to decide what festivals to go to, or 5k’s to participate in as Central Ohio has so much going on! PMICOC is no exception when it comes to having a lot to offer. In April, we had our first in-person event since the beginning of Covid, which highlighted the tremendous work our Outreach committee has done with other area non-profits. In May, we had a great virtual event, “BRM is Everywhere”, which was very informative and offered a unique perspective for approaching challenges regardless of your role. Our Outreach committee also headed up a volunteer event at the Furniture Bank, where PMICOC members helped to assemble furniture for those in need. Looking ahead, we will be holding a networking and volunteering event on Thursday, July 28th at 6pm at the Roosters on Olentangy. We have many opportunities to get involved and give back, so we hope you will join us for this informal event and give some thought to volunteering. Whether you’re looking for a small, short-term commitment, or something more long term and involved, I’m pretty sure we have an opportunity that will be a fit. Currently, there are opportunities within Programs, Marketing and Communication, Member Services, Outreach, as well as helping out with our annual Professional Development Day. I very excited for what we have achieved so far in 2022 and looking forward to more great things to come yet this year, like our Professional Development Day. This event will be in-person this year after a Covid hiatus. We have some greater keynotes and breakout sessions planned and would love to see you at the Greater Columbus Convention Center on Thursday, October 14th. Registration will open soon with an early bird discount, so save the date now! In closing, I would like to thank you all for your membership. We have one of the largest chapters in the country and I always love to share our stories with other chapter leaders. I hope that you find our offerings beneficial and possibly take the next step in getting involved through volunteering. Here’s to a fun and productive summer! Thank you, Stephanie

Reflections on 2021

Reflections on 2021

Greetings PMICOC members! As we embark of 2022, I would like to take a moment and acknowledge some of our Chapter’s accomplishments in 2021. While Covid has been around for longer than any of us could have imagined, our PMICOC members, volunteers and Board were still able to achieve certifications, attend trainings and give back to the community in 2021. Our committees continued their focus throughout the year and adapted well to a prolonged virtual environment. While this past year may have limited our ability to collaborate face to face, our Technology and Communications teams were hard at work on redesigning our chapter website, which looks phenomenal! Our Outreach committee continued to partner with area non-profits to provide project support and much needed trainings. To add to these accomplishments, our Programs team offered a variety of virtual events for our members throughout the year. I am beyond proud of what was achieved in 2021 and am excited to lead PMICOC in 2022. We have a lot planned for this year and look forward to offering chapter events virtually and hopefully in person in the coming months. PDD will be back in the fall, with plans to be in person and returning to the convention center. We’re also looking into more virtual “lunch and learns” for PDU opportunities in addition to the evening sessions we offer. For those looking to become more involved this year, in addition to events, there will more opportunities to volunteer. Giving back is central to our organization and important for our communities. Whether you enjoy event planning, supporting non-profits with project endeavors, embarking on tech opportunities or simply posting on social media, there is an opportunity for you.
