FAQ - Membership

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you communicate with the members?

In addition to the website which provides information on chapter events, the leadership team, and volunteer opportunities, periodic emails are sent to members.  A Quarterly Newsletter is emailed which recaps activities that occurred during the prior quarter and publicizes upcoming events.  The Newsletter also includes topical articles of interest to PMs, recognizes member’s new certifications, and spotlights an individual member’s contributions to the chapter.  Another communication path is a bi-weekly email that is primarily used to publicize upcoming events

What types of events are available to members?

There is typically a monthly event scheduled which provides an opportunity to earn 1 PDU.  These monthly events cover a wide range of PM-related topics such as Discipled Agile, Women In Leadership, Change Management, and PM As A Career For Veterans.  Periodically PMI boot camps and Certification Night Schools are scheduled which prepare members for the PMP certification test. The Professional Development Day (PDD) is a full day, once a year event, offering multiple keynote speakers and breakout speakers, and 6+ PDUs.

NOTE:  Following CDC guidelines, events have been hosted via virtual platforms.  As COVID restrictions are removed, we will revert to in-person events, when appropriate and feasible.

Can Non-members attend events?

Yes, non-members can attend PMICOC events, however, the price for non-members is higher than member pricing.

What do I do if I am having trouble registering for an event?

Contact info@pmicoc.org for assistance.

How can I get involved in the chapter?

There are lots of ways to get involved!  We are an all-volunteer non-profit, so we depend on member involvement. Volunteer to be on the leadership team.  Get involved in one of the Outreach programs that work with non-profits such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Volunteer to work at the annual Professional Development Day. Send an email to info@pmicoc.org if you would like to discuss opportunities to volunteer.

How can my membership help with my career?

In addition to the many opportunities to network with local PMs at chapter events, membership also provides opportunities for you to share your expertise and increase your visibility within the PM community.  You could submit an article to the Quarterly Newsletter or make a presentation at the annual Professional Development Day (PDD).
